I was always so disappointed by the geofencing which meant that I could not view films, series and documentaries broadcasted by the public broadcasters here in Germany when I was travelling. The broadcasters have very good mediatheks with very good material which I don't always have the time to view when I am at home but would like to view when I am on holiday or at home in Ireland. One solution, the one I choose, was to download the videos that I wished to view to a server that I had access to when abroad. Jellyfin suited my situation very well so I set up this server, once again on my own hardware in my own home.
The videos are exclusively for myself and my very close family who, being born and bred in Germany, might be interested in viewing German television content when abroad. My hardware is quite simple (and quite cheap really) so streaming might not be quite so smooth as with commercial streaming companies but it is sufficient for single viewers not expecting 4HD quality anyway.
